My best friend?

It was the first day of high school with a mix of excitement and nervousness. As I approached the classroom my mind was racing and wondering what this new chapter in my life would hold.

Just as I was about to step into the room I noticed someone standing near the doorway. At first, I froze and was surprised. I realized why he looked so familiar. He wasn’t just a stranger, he was someone from the past. He was my close friend’s ex-boyfriend. The memories rushed back and remembered the awkward conversations we had before, and the way I had only ever known him as of their relationship. We hadn’t really spoken much back then and he was standing right in front of me.

For a moment, I wasn’t sure what to say. It was all so awkward. But before I could think too much, he greeted me with a casual smile that eased my nerves. He seemed completely different from the person I had known before; not just “someone’s boyfriend” but a person who was surprisingly easy to talk to.

As the days turned into weeks, we started hanging out more. Conversations with him felt natural, as though we had always been friends. Over time, I discovered how kind, supportive, and genuine he was. He had a way of making everyone feel at ease.

What started as an unexpected reunion turned into one of the most important friendships of my life. He became the person I could turn to no matter what. Till this date we are in touch no matter how far we are or no matter how much we communicate in a month or year. It’s funny how life works; sometimes, the people you least expect end up meaning the most.
